Story:

Wu Zetian, a female emperor of China’s Tang Dynasty, appointed a group of cool officials in order to suppress those who opposed her. Two of them were the most vicious, Zhou Xing and Lai Junchen. They used false accusations, accusations and inhumane criminal laws to kill many honest officials and common people.

Once, a letter of denunciation was sent to Wu Zetian, and the content of the letter was to denounce Zhou Xing’s plotting with others to rebel. The government has been working on a number of projects to improve the quality of life in the country. The first time I saw him, he thought, “Zhou Xing is a treacherous person, just based on a letter, it is impossible to make him tell the truth; but, in case the investigation does not yield results, the empress blamed down, I can not afford to come to Junchen. How can this be done?

After thinking hard for half a day, Lai Junchen finally came up with a brilliant plan. He prepared a sumptuous banquet and invited Zhou Xing to his home. Two people persuaded me to drink, while drinking and chatting. After three rounds of wine, Lai Junchen sighed and said, “Brother I usually handle cases, often encounter some prisoners do not admit guilt, I do not know what my brother has a solution?”

Zhou Xing said smugly: “This is not easy to do!” Said lifting a glass of wine and took a sip. Lai Junchen immediately pretended to be very eager to say: “Oh, please quickly enlighten me.” Zhou Xing narrowed his eyes, said thievingly: “You find a large urn, surrounded by charcoal fire, and then let the prisoner into the urn, you think, what prisoner does not confess?” Lai Junchen nodded and praised a good idea, then ordered people to bring a large urn, as Zhou Xing said, around the charcoal fire, and then turned back to Zhou Xing and said, “Someone in the palace accused you of plotting rebellion, the empress ordered me to investigate strictly. I’m sorry, now please get into the urn yourself, buddy.”

When Zhou Xing heard this, the wine cup in his hand fell to the ground, followed by a “thud” and fell to his knees, kowtowing repeatedly and saying, “I am guilty, I am guilty, I confess.”
